Google Cloud Bigtable Support

Google Cloud Bigtable Support

We continue to expand DataSunrise's database coverage to meet the demands of modern cloud-native architectures and ensure comprehensive data protection wherever your data resides.

Google Cloud Bigtable is Google's fully managed, scalable NoSQL database service designed for large analytical and operational workloads. Widely used across IoT, financial services, ad tech, and real-time analytics, Bigtable often stores vast amounts of data that may include sensitive and personally identifiable information.

From version 12.0, DataSunrise provides comprehensive security support for Google Cloud Bigtable. Organizations can now monitor database activity, discover and classify sensitive data, and enforce security policies across their Bigtable environments.

How It Works

Google Cloud Bigtable is CQL-compatible and connects through Apache Cassandra's query protocol. In DataSunrise, a Bigtable instance is added using the Apache Cassandra database type. DataSunrise has rigorously tested the integration and can confirm that all essential functionality is available.

What DataSunrise Offers for Google Cloud Bigtable

Activity Monitoring
DataSunrise provides real-time Activity Monitoring for Bigtable databases, giving administrators full visibility into query execution, user access patterns, and data modifications.

Database Security
Robust security measures including access control and threat detection safeguard your Bigtable databases against unauthorized access and SQL injection attacks.

Sensitive Data Discovery
DataSunrise scans your Bigtable database to detect and classify sensitive data. The discovery engine identifies PII, PHI, PCI, and other regulated data types, providing a clear map of where your sensitive information resides.

Risk Scoring
DataSunrise's Risk Score feature evaluates the security posture of your Bigtable databases, helping you understand and prioritize data protection risks based on the types and volumes of sensitive data discovered.

Data Compliance
Built-in compliance automation helps meet regulatory requirements including HIPAA, GDPR, SOX, and PCI DSS across your Bigtable environments.

Native Logs and Sniffer Mode
DataSunrise supports Native Log Trailing and Sniffer Mode for Bigtable, providing flexible options for capturing and auditing database activity.

The exception is masking. Cassandra's Dynamic Masking in DataSunrise relies on User Defined Functions — small Java routines that run inside the database to transform column values on the fly. Bigtable does not support UDFs. It also does not support CASE WHEN expressions or query substitution, so there is no workaround at the protocol level. Static Masking has the same constraint. If you need to mask sensitive data in Bigtable, the current path is to handle it at the application layer.

Comprehensive Cloud Data Protection

With Bigtable support, DataSunrise extends its coverage further into the Google Cloud ecosystem. Whether your data lives in relational databases, NoSQL stores, cloud storage, or graph databases — DataSunrise ensures you can monitor, discover, and protect it.
