DB2 for IBM i Support in DataSunrise 12.2

DB2 for IBM i Support in DataSunrise 12.2

DataSunrise 12.2 adds support for DB2 for IBM i/iSeries environments as part of the DB2 database family. DataSunrise can create and connect DB2 for IBM i instances, process their traffic through the proxy, and apply Audit, Security, and Dynamic Masking rules.

For organizations that still run business-critical workloads on IBM i systems, this adds a practical way to bring DB2 for IBM i activity into the same DataSunrise control layer used for other databases.

Why DB2 for IBM i Support Matters

DB2 for IBM i often supports core business applications that have been running for years. These systems can hold customer records, financial data, operational data, and other information that still needs modern security controls.

At the same time, legacy environments can be difficult to fit into newer monitoring and masking workflows. Teams may need database activity visibility, policy-based blocking, or dynamic masking without replacing existing applications or changing the role of IBM i in the business.

DataSunrise 12.2 helps close that gap by adding DB2 for IBM i support to the DB2-family stack.

What DataSunrise 12.2 Adds

With this release, DataSunrise can create and connect DB2 for IBM i instances. Once configured, traffic can pass through the DataSunrise proxy for policy inspection and enforcement.

The new support includes:

  • DB2 for IBM i instance creation and connection.
  • Proxy traffic processing for DB2 for IBM i.
  • Data Audit rules for monitoring database activity.
  • Security rules for controlling risky or unauthorized operations.
  • Dynamic Masking rules for reducing sensitive data exposure.
  • Response masking support.
  • LOB operation handling.

This gives teams more than basic connectivity. DB2 for IBM i traffic can now participate in the same audit, security, and masking workflows that DataSunrise users already rely on.

Audit and Security Controls

DataSunrise Audit rules help teams record DB2 for IBM i activity and review events in audit trails. This can support internal investigations, compliance checks, and day-to-day monitoring of database use.

Security rules add another layer of control. Teams can define policies for database operations and respond when activity matches restricted or risky patterns. This is useful when DB2 for IBM i contains sensitive data but must remain available to existing applications and users.

Dynamic Masking for Sensitive Data

DataSunrise 12.2 also brings Dynamic Masking support to DB2 for IBM i traffic. Dynamic Masking helps limit what users and applications can see in query results without changing the original data stored in the database.

This is useful for teams that need to expose operational data while reducing unnecessary access to personal, financial, or regulated fields. DataSunrise can apply masking policies at the traffic layer and return protected values according to the configured rules.

Extending DB2-Family Coverage

DB2 for IBM i support gives DataSunrise users another way to protect long-running enterprise systems. It expands DB2-family coverage and makes it easier to include IBM i environments in centralized database security, audit, and masking programs.

See the updated DataSunrise documentation for current DB2 for IBM i configuration details and feature scope.
